My reflection on cooperative and collaborative learning
Hello guys✋
I hope you are doing well.Today I am going to give my insight on the other lecture .
This reflection is on cooperative and collaborative learning.I know that you have had the opportunity to practise doing group work ,and I am sure you liked it very much.Being based on what I have experienced and on what I read from this lecture, the topic is very interesting because nowadays we are asked to organise the lessons in this way. When I was reading the material and watching some videos ,I found it very enjoyable the information about the Kagan structures(additional resources)They were very successful structures because they helped students in their learning process and have showed marked improvements in the USA schools. These classrooms were different from traditional ones, students did not seat in the rows ,they are not asked to be quiet, to keep their eyes on their work. And teachers for sure were using very revolutionary learning strategies. It is important to mention the fact that students worked together, interact with each other, explore the curriculum like never happened before, thye are actively engaged in the learning process. In this way eventhough students were of different races, sexes, abilities too, they learned to enjoy working together, enjoythe curriculum and each other .Working in groups made them celebrate each others successes ,quite differerent from independent work which is mostly applied in traditional classrooms.
In my opinion, they are a model to follow for most of our schools, because such structures help us create an entirely different culture, because by changing structure in classrooms we radically transform the entire dynamics of the educational experience and educational outcomes as well.
Considering different subjects we have done in school ,we know that cooperative and collaborative learning are the methods where students can work together in small groups to reach shared goals, with each person bringing their own strengths to the team. And these methods create a positive classroom environment because students take responsibility for their learning while also helping each other, which helps everyone succeed. When they work in this way ,they can build a sense of interdependence, and this helps students realize that their success is linked to the group’s overall progress.
The lecture also highlighted that teachers organize groups with specific purposes and roles to keep students engaged and accountable. It is crucial for the teachers to start by asking thought-provoking questions because a good question is the one that motivates the student, encourage them to deeper thinking and connect new information to what they already know.
To add more when applying these methods teachers should even track progress by using assessments that match the group activities. For example, if a group conducts an interview, they might analyze and compare responses instead of just taking a test. Students also reflect on their roles, identifying their strengths and areas they want to improve. The emphasis on the use of technology as an important tool to supports these activities, helping students with research, collaboration, and presentations.
To sum up, this approach is fundamental to education because it not only improves learning but also helps students develop communication and problem-solving skills, which are important for working with others in the future.
Thank you for reading!
